Public Service Interpreting and Translation

Public Service Interpreting and Translation

In 2010, the EU passed legislation mandating that anyone facing a criminal charge has the right to interpreting and translation assistance, free of charge if they do not understand the legal proceedings.

All EU countries had until the 27th October 2013 to implement this Directive. This includes areas such as interpreting for police Interrogations, meetings between the client and lawyer, or trials. ONCALL EUROPA is able to handle the translation of:

The Detention Order

The Indictment

The Judgement

Different levels of access to public service interpreting and translation assistance have been experienced in Belgium, with huge variation in quality. This has lead to wasted time and money for the Belgian Justice system and often, miscarriages of justice.

ONCALL EUROPA provides standardisation in all areas of the public service interpreting and translation process in over 160 languages, saving time and money while providing the highest quality for the justice system.

Interpreting Quality Management

Every interpreter registered with ONCALL EUROPA has undergone strict, rigorous recruitment procedures including reference checks, qualification checks and police checks. ONCALL EUROPA interpreters are sworn and subject to continuing professional development. For the Belgian Justice system, this provides reassurance that the received high level of interpreting services is standard, regardless of region or language.

Booking Process

With the current system, the Court Clerk may have to call several interpreters to check availability. This takes time away from their important legal activities, often with little knowledge about the level of quality they may receive.

With one call to ONCALL EUROPA, we find the most qualified public service interpreting experts and handle the rest! We contact interpreters from our extensive database to ensure the allocation of an appropriately qualified, experienced interpreter. This additional help saves time and money for the Court Clerk and ultimately the Belgian Justice system.

Public Service Translation Process

Translation of essential public service documents is equally important to guaranteeing compliance with the EU Directive. A proper translation also ensures defendants and victims understand every aspect of the legal proceedings.

ONCALL EUROPA utilises Sworn translators and follows strict security procedures to make certain the contents of highly sensitive documents remains secure at all times.
